In 2021, Meta Platforms, in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, introduced the first-generation Ray-Ban Stories, marking Meta's initial foray into smart eyewear. These glasses allowed users to capture photos and videos, listen to music, and take calls, all while maintaining the classic Ray-Ban aesthetic. Building upon this foundation, the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses were launched in September 2023, featuring enhanced audio and camera systems, with over 150 customizable frame and lens combinations. Notably, they integrated Meta AI, enabling users to interact with an advanced conversational assistant through voice commands.Â
By April 2024, a significant update introduced multimodal AI capabilities, allowing the glasses to process visual inputs via computer vision. This advancement enabled real-time identification of objects and landmarks, providing users with contextual information about their surroundings. Further enhancements included live language translation between English and several other languages, as well as song identification through Shazam integration.
